If you choose to get an all-seasons duvet you will be saving yourself the hassle of having to change your duvet every time the weather changes.

This is beneficial in a number of ways, not only is it less effort but it could also save you some money too. It may seem obsolete to you to own two duvets and that is why an all-season duvet can be perfect for some people.

All-seasons duvets, as the name suggests, are perfect for year-round use and are made specifically for this purpose. The fabrics in an all-seasons duvet should keep you cool on hot nights and cosy and warm on cold nights.

Which tog duvet for all seasons?

You may have heard of tog ratings before, but do you know what that means?

Tog is an acronym that stands for Thermal Overall Grade. The tog rating is how the thermal insulation of individual duvets is measured. Therefore the tog rating tells you how well the duvet will keep you warm.

It basically refers to how good a duvet is at trapping your warmth under it.

The higher the tog rating is the more it will retain your heat and the lower the tog rating the less the duvet will retain your heat.

Tog ratings start at 1 and go all the way up to 16.5.

This is a huge range sp we split up our duvets to help guide you. They are split into summer duvets, winter duvets and all seasons duvets.

For summer we recommend 1.5 – 4.5 togs. For winter we recommend 13.5 – 15 togs.

Our all seasons duvets range from 7.5 togs to 10.5 togs.

How to look after your bedding.

The first thing that you should do when deciding that it is time to wash your duvet is read the care label. This will tell you whether or not it is machine washable.

Pre-treating stains by applying distilled vinegar is a great thing to do before you put your duvet in the washing machine.

So, if it is machine washable how should you do it?

Simply put your duvet inside the washing machine separate from everything else in your laundry.

Wash the duvet using a warm water setting on a gentle spin cycle.

Once you have washed your duvet you need to make sure it dries fully. The best way to do this is to hang it either in a well-ventilated place indoors or out in the fresh air.

You should avoid putting your duvet to dry on a radiator as this will create moisture which can encourage the growth of mildew and mould in your home.

If your duvet is king size or super king size then you may find that it does not fit inside your home washing machine. If these circumstances you should take your duvet to be washed at a laundrette as they will have larger washing machines that your duvet will fit inside of.

If the care label on your duvet says that it should not be machine washed then you will want to hand wash it.

How to look after your bedding.

To hand wash your duvet you should:

  1. Check the duvet’s care label to see if hand washing is acceptable.
  2. Fill your bathtub with warm water and add washing powder or a mild laundry detergent.
  3. Place the duvet into the bathwater.
  4. Gently knead the duvet with your hands, to clean the dirt away.
  5. Don’t scrub or wring the duvet harshly, as this can wrinkle the material or damage the filling inside.
  6. Rinse and repeat as necessary.
  7. Drain the bathwater and give the duvet a final rinse.
  8. Roll and un-roll the duvet to squeeze the excess water out.
  9. Allow the duvet to dry fully, outdoors in the fresh air, before using or storing it.
  10. As you are drying the duvet, check that the filling has not been re-distributed to different parts of the duvet.
